I don't have any experience wild bird hunting in Illinois.  My friend and I would like to try some local wild bird (pheasant, quail or dove) hunting on some of the IDNR public ground.  Any suggestions in either of these regions.  Getting ready to send off for the permits.  Any input would be appreciated.

Counting down, 9 more days til I bring home the pup.  I know this is outside of the general NAVHDA topic, but with all this talent on this site, hard not to ask.

Simon where are you located? Which breed of dog did you choose? Clinton Lake is where I do most of my public hunting. It's not bad

Columbia, IL, right by the Jefferson Barracks bridge on I-255.  I am getting a GSP pup from Rob (Daniels).   For the last couple of years, I have just been going with my buddy and his two dogs to Horseshoe Lake, Rend Lake and Ramsey for the controlled hunts.  He's wanting to get on more wild birds this year, somewhere within 2 to 4 hrs away.
