Anyone have any tips for finding and training on wild pheasants at Clinton lake? I was out there Sunday for 5 hrs. We ran into one hen and one cock. I kicked up the hen and Duke didn't even see it. Duke pointed the cock, but then saw it running so he broke and I whoa'd him as the bird flew off. We tried Mascoutin area and an area North East of town of Parnell. Some of the areas I am thinking of are Parnell boat ramp area, Dam area, Salt creek area (towards beginning of lake). Any suggestions? If you want you can PM me. Also, wandering which area the youth pheasant hunt is held at? | |

Loop, You are not going to find them everywhere out there. Ive trained once there and they were tough to find. Not to mention very wild and running ahead. Did you notice the dog getting birdy like maybe they were there but ran ahead? If you go back, look for spots that they would have some feed, and they should be in cover around those ares. No feed= probably no birds. Also keep in mind that the training season usualy doesnt stay in too much longer. Some areas are open year round but I dont think Clinton is. Just check before you go. Also- Clint is more familiar with this area than most of us. Maybe he can chime in and direct you.
