Hi everyone,

I'll be returning to Illinois in a few weeks, just in time to start working the dog into shape for the hunting season. I'm wanting to experiment with Bismuth shot shells this year as they are softer than steel. However, I can't find anywhere that is selling Bis-Maxx or similar shells. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Also, I'm looking for a couple of ducks to pick up in early October. If anyone has any for sale, I'm interested.

Finally, I'd love to have some morning training with anyone in early October if anyone is available.

Hope everyone is well.

Fred

Good to hear from you stranger.

I have been looking for your questionable shot also and can not seem to find it. And most of the folk I talk to use steel shot. So not much of a lead thus far.

I will try to remember to e-mail you a number for a bird raiser near you (San Jose). He has pen raised Mallards, Chukar, Pheasant and quail available at most times. Usually reasonable on price

Hey guys,

Thanks for the replies. I returned home last Wednesday morning from just over five months in Ireland and Austria. I'm looking forward to a good hunting season and am working furiously to get Chester in shape!

I've decided to skip the bismuth shells and go with tungsten, from Kent. If anyone is looking for a very strong alternative to steel, which doesn't deliver the punch of lead, tungsten may be it, at least from the study I've done. I'm going to purchase some online and see how it goes. I've never hunted ducks, but am hoping to go with a few friends in the near future.

I'd love to have the number of the person with ducks near San Jose. I really need to get Chester on them again now that he is older. I've been working with him on directly retrieving, side to side right now, not back over his head yet, and he is doing well. He just seems to mature slowly and I find that patience is the key to teaching him new things. Patience for me, not him:)

Hope to do some hunting with you all this year. I sure missed coming to chapter meetings this year!
