Anyone have any tips for keeping dogs healthy/full of energy on a long, multi-day hunt? I have a 5-7 day pheasant/duck hunting trip coming up and every year I run into a new issue with my dog (either him getting hurt, running out of energy, etc . . .). Just wondering if anyone had any tips (e.g. giving them corn syrup, lots of water obviously, extra amounts of food, etc. . . .)

Terry has a great point. 2 dogs would be ideal. But who wants to travel to "the promise land" of birds and let thier dog sit it out?. Try to keep him as calm as possible whenever you can. Dont get him out just to exercise, or run just for the hell of it. If hes not hunting make him come in and relax. Just pace it out best you can. Hard to do when he will have 100 duck retrieves ahead of him! Try to find him some energy bars, or take a bottle of natural honey. Good source of energy to boost him. Hell love it.
