This is my first time training whistle commands.   Any recommendations for what commands to train on the whistle and how many whistle blows for each command.

The whistle commands I use are basic to many dog trainers. The individuals I hunted with, as a young person, used similar but had their own variations.

Three blasts to “come”. I sometimes roll one into the other if the dog is out of sight.

Two sharp blasts for attention and when I know I have his attention I start moving toward the new objective.

One sharp blast for whoa. I also use the “police hand signal”for stop, one upright hand.

Thanks Ed, I have started training these. Does anyone use the Acme silent whistle? What are the opinoins on those? I have read that a regular whistle could potentially spook the birds, especially later in the season. Have not seen a definitive answer if the birds here the freq. ranges of the silent whistle and if it also spooks them.
