Hello everyone, I confess that I've never hunted duck. Ever. The only ducks I've killed are those I've used for dog training. I don't even know the first thing about or where to begin. I'm really looking for someone who is a safe hunter to help teach me. If anyone is willing to teach me, I'm willing to learn! Please respond to this post or phone me at 217-732-5850. Thanks everyone, Fred

Nice to hear someone be honest for a change!!!! Perhaps you can give everyone a better understanding on what it is you are wanting. Is it Just dog work? Or how to set up a decoy spread, blind, calling? Do you have a place to go that would invite ducks, or are you looking to tag along with someone. Perhaps a little more info. would get someone to bite. If you have somewhere to hunt ducks.....you will probably get a lot of responses from people willing to come show you. I can tell you that there is nobody as negiigent on waterfowl as me and I have had the opportunity to go a couple times with a chapter member. It was a blast and I wish I had the knowledge to do it myself.

First thing I'll tell you, is don't expect to learn everything in one season. There are lots of different situations and methods. I've been waterfowl hunting for 6 years, and I'll hunt geese on my own, but not ducks. I still duck hunt with people with more experience than I have. I'll call geese, but don't touch a duck call when birds are working. The second thing I'll tell you, is once you start duck hunting, it's REALLY hard to stop. But it is a blast when birds are working in.

I'd be more than happy to take you on a hunt, but it may be next year given the current time of year and my current moving situation. How old are your kids? Any old enough to hunt? We can probably get them and you on a youth hunt as a great introduction. The other option is for you to draw a public land permit next year. Check online for draw dates and how to go about applying. Take care.
